Every time I make/ buy a swimming suit for my babies, I add snap tape. Why the baby bathing suit industry does not add snaps in standard is a mystery to me. Have you ever tried to finagle a wet suit off of a squirmy baby to change their diaper? Worst.
Luckily, you can buy snap tape by the yardage at most fabric stores. No fancy tools needed.
1. Cut a piece of snap tape to size.
2. Cut the suit open at center-crotch (is it wierd to say that?) There’s no need to finish the raw edges here, because the knit material will not fray.
3. Move the needle all the way to the left, and sew around the edges of the snap tape to secure it to either side of the suit.
This year I have one potty trained, and one potty training. It really doesn’t matter if they’re in diapers or not, these snaps are so unbelievably convenient. I don’t know how we’d ever get through the summer without them.
This is genius! I totally am doing this with my three girls three and under. For that matter, they should do this on ALL bathing suits. It would be awfully convient at times ;)
Brilliant! I am totally doing this for my daughter’s swim suits! Thank you for the idea! :D I found you on tatertots & jello weekend wrap-up :)
This is a genius idea! Peeling off and putting back on wet swimsuits is the WORST. We’ll be featuring this over at Someday Crafts tomorrow :)
Soooo genius! I don’t have a little girl, but I can only imagine trying to get a wet suit off to go potty. No fun. I’m surprised they’re not already made this one. Oh well, at least you’re smart enough to solve this problem! Awesome job. Saw you on Someday Crafts!
This is GENIUS!!! I’m so going to do this with my daughter’s suits.
Brilliant! Why didn’t I ever think of this? Sharing on my FB page! Thanks for linking it up at Monday Funday!
I just wanted to let you know that I featured your wonderful project on homework. Thanks so much for sharing it on The Inspiration Board.

This is a great idea. I have zero talent with sewing and don’t even own a sewing machine…do you think this would work with a glue gun?
Sadly, I think most glue would come undone when you pull at the snaps. BUT… I have simple tutorials for several hand stitching methods, if you have a needle and thread you could give that a go!

Total, utter genius! We always just yank the fabric to one side for them to go for a wee, but this would be so much easier. Off to put these on the girls suits now (would it be dangerous to do mine, too?!)
I bought tankini’s. I got tired of battling the wet suit!
Do you sew all the way around the snap tape or just along the edge?
I take pleasure in, cause I found just what I used to be looking for.
You have ended my four day long hunt! God Bless you man.
Have a great day. Bye
Do you think this would work for an adult swimdress?
I love this idea but I’d be concerned about metal snaps corrosion.
